Labor Day is a strange holiday in this business, because a good number of the people it honours are working through it.
Who is actually out there
T. Disney Trucking does not own trucks and does not employ drivers. The hauling is carried by a network of more than a thousand independent owner-operators across Florida. Each one bought the truck, carries the insurance, manages their own DOT compliance, and decides which work to take.
That distinction matters today of all days. These are not employees getting a paid holiday. They are small business owners, and for some of them a long weekend is three days the truck is not earning. Others will run loads through it so that somebody else's project starts Tuesday morning with material already on the ground.
Both of those are choices people make about their own businesses, and both deserve the same respect.
Forty-six years of people choosing to haul
This company has been family-owned since 1980. Every one of those years depended on haulers deciding, load by load, that working with us was worth it.
We do not take that for granted. It is why dispatch answers, why we pay when we say we will, and why we try not to send anybody to a site that will waste their day. Those are not favours. They are the minimum, and they are the reason the network holds.
The same goes for the office and dispatch team, who spend their days absorbing other people's emergencies and turning bad mornings into ordinary ones.
One practical note
Dispatch runs through the holiday on (844) 258-7825. Quarries and pits set their own hours, so if you need material moving this week, ask the specific supplier rather than assuming.
Tuesday will be busy. It always is after a long weekend, and everybody discovers the same thing at the same time.
